Membership Changes to REF Network’s Governing Boards

As the Roma Education Fund enters a new cycle of sustainability and growth, important administrative changes have been implemented in the governing boards within its network of foundations. Before going into details, REF would like to thank all outgoing board members for their service, their time and their efforts to shape the growth and governance of REF. We would also like to thank all newcomers, whether appointed or recruited, for their contributions so far and we look forward to your guidance and advice as we shape REF’s long-term goals and operations.

The Governing Board of REF Switzerland can report the following developments in the last six months:

  • Appointed by the World Bank, Ms. Mariam Sherman has replaced Ms. Anna Bjerde.
  • Appointed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Her Excellency Sybille Suter, Swiss Ambassador to Macedonia, has replaced His Excellency Alexander Wittwer, Swiss Ambassador to Slovakia.
  • Appointed by Open Society Foundations, Dr. Kinga Goncz has replaced Mr. Robert Kushen, also assuming his post as Vice Chair.
  • Ms. Livia Jaroka has stepped down and her replacement shall be appointed at the next REF Governing Board meeting.
  • Ms. Judit Toth (Treasurer) has also stepped down and a replacement is being recruited.
  • Mr. Pierre Mirel was invited joined the Board and officially joined as of March 2016.

The Board of REF Romania can report the following changes:

  • Mr. William Lazarus Bila, also serving on the REF Switzerland Board, has been appointed as Chair of the REF Romania Foundation Board.
  • Dr Nicoleta Bitu, also serving on the REF Switzerland Board, has been appointed as a member of REF Romania Foundation Board.
  • Ms. Margareta Matache and Mr. Dezideriu Gergely remain on the REF Romania board.

The Board of REF Slovakia can report the following changes:

  • Mr. William Lazarus Bila, also serving on the REF Switzerland Board, has been appointed as Chair of REF Slovakia Foundation Board.
  • Ms Ingrid Kosova replaces Ms. Valetina Petrus, while Ms. Lydia Gabcova remains on the REF Slovakia Board.
