REF Extends its Activities to Employment in Serbia

The Representative Office of the Roma Education Fund in Serbia signed a Memorandum with the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and with National Employment Service on March 29, 2017.

The Representative Office of the Roma Education Fund in Serbia signed a Memorandum with the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs of the Republic of Serbia and with National Employment Service on March 29, 2017.

State Secretary Nenad Ivanisevic emphasized that the Memorandum is a very important step for Roma community as it contributes to the realization of measures envisaged in the Strategy for Social Inclusion of Roma in Serbia.

Director of the National Employment Service Zoran Martinovic shared the information that the institution has 26,000 Roma in its records so far, many of whom are low skilled. He stressed the importance of this project to improve opportunities for Roma employment.

REF Country Manager Nataša Kočić-Rakočević emphasized that the government of the Republic of Serbia has always been a valuable partner in improving of education of Roma and stated that the Memorandum is an opportunity to successful extend cooperation to the area of employment.

Implementation of the project “Improved Education and Integration Opportunities for Roma in Serbia, Employment Empowerment of Young Roma, and Reintegration of Returnees” began in late 2016, will last for 30 months, and is supported by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany and administered by the German Development Bank – KfW to the amount of over EUR 2.3 million.
